About this consultation
A quick medical assessment for acute problems that are not emergencies
It is for recent acute complaints, in adults and children, that need a same-day answer but are not life-threatening — mild to moderate symptoms a general practitioner can assess by video.
The doctor assesses your symptoms by video call, explains what is happening and, when indicated, prescribes medication or issues a sick note or certificate. If needed, they direct you to an in-person examination.
Without an in-person physical exam, some conditions cannot be confirmed online. The doctor will tell you if you should be seen at a health service.
Chest pain, severe breathlessness, loss of consciousness, sudden confusion or heavy bleeding are emergencies. Do not use the video consultation — call 112.
When it makes sense
- Fever, flu or a cold
- Sore throat, cough or mild respiratory symptoms
- Urinary symptoms
- Diarrhoea or vomiting
- Need for a prescription or sick note the same day

Prescriptions, sick notes (CIT) and certificates are issued when clinically indicated.
How to prepare
Have your medication list and, if possible, a temperature reading to hand. For visible complaints (skin, throat), make sure there is good lighting. If the consultation is for a child, be present with them during the call.
