About this consultation
Follow-up for chronic respiratory disease, with review of tests and inhaled-treatment adjustment
The Pneumology consultation is mainly for people who already have a diagnosed chronic respiratory condition — asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis or another interstitial disease — and need regular follow-up. It also suits reviewing respiratory tests you have already done and clarifying questions about inhaled medication.
During the video consultation, the pulmonologist reviews your history, your current symptoms and any tests you have available, assesses how well the disease is controlled and adjusts treatment when needed, including how you use your inhalers. They can also request new tests, issue prescriptions and guide you through mild flare-ups.
Because it is remote, this consultation cannot include listening to your chest, measuring oxygen levels or performing spirometry on the spot. When that is needed, or if your breathing worsens significantly, the doctor refers you for an in-person assessment or the appropriate tests. Teleconsultation is a follow-up tool and does not replace a physical examination when one is required.
This consultation is for stable respiratory disease. If you have sudden breathlessness, chest pain or blue lips, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department.
When it makes sense
- Follow-up of previously diagnosed asthma or COPD
- Review of spirometry, chest CT or other tests
- Adjusting inhaled medication and inhaler technique
- Renewing prescriptions for chronic respiratory disease

- 02
Control assessment
You discuss current symptoms and how well controlled the disease has been since the last visit.
- 03
Treatment adjustment
The doctor reviews your medication, checks your inhaler technique and adjusts the plan.
- 04
Tests and prescriptions
When indicated, they request new tests, issue prescriptions and schedule the next follow-up.
How to prepare
Have your most recent respiratory tests to hand — spirometry, blood gases, chest X-ray or CT — and, if possible, send them before the consultation. Gather all the inhalers and other medication you use, with their names and doses, so the doctor can check your technique and adjust the regimen. Note how often you have had flare-ups or worsening lately, your use of reliever medication and, if you measure oxygen at home, the readings you have recorded; if you smoke or used to smoke, have that information ready too. Choose a quiet place with a good internet connection where you can talk and, if needed, show the devices to the camera.
